This Bel-canto-opera is a treasure found by music historian Anders Wiklund. The first performance of the heroic opera Enrico di Borgogna by Donizetti took place at Teatro San Luca, Venice 1818. The opera was a great success; however, the score disappeared for unknown reasons. In 2012, Enrico returns to the stage at Vadstena Castle in an opera about a young man who has lost his rightful place on the throne. As in 1818, he was sung by a woman and the opera poses the same vocal challenges that it did nearly 200 years ago. Enrico di Borgogna was played in The wedding hall at Vadstena Castle.
